Practical, engaging workshops for writers who want stronger stories, smarter publishing strategies, and creative careers they can actually sustain.
USA Today bestselling author Moni Boyce speaks and teaches on storytelling, self-publishing, author branding, reader engagement, and the business of building an author career.
Available for conferences, writing organizations, libraries, universities, retreats, virtual events, panels, and other creative communities.

Practical Advice. Real Experience. No One-Size-Fits-All Formula.
Publishing and building a creative career can feel overwhelming, especially when writers are surrounded by conflicting advice about what they should be doing.
Moni’s workshops are designed to make complicated topics easier to understand and, more importantly, easier to use.
Drawing from her experience as a bestselling independent author, mentor, filmmaker, and creative professional, Moni combines practical instruction with honest conversations about storytelling, publishing, marketing, and the realities of building a sustainable author career.
Attendees leave with more than information. Sessions are built around clear frameworks, real-world examples, audience participation, practical exercises, and actionable next steps writers can apply to their own work.
Workshops & Speaking Topics
I would give each workshop its own card or section rather than putting all four descriptions into one giant block of text.
Newsletter Content That Readers Actually Want to Open
You built the email list. Now what are you supposed to send?
This workshop helps authors move beyond newsletters that only appear when there is something to sell. Attendees learn how to create reader-centered emails using five repeatable content buckets, develop a sustainable newsletter rhythm, and build emails that strengthen reader relationships while still supporting book sales.
Topics include: reader connection, content strategy, newsletter structure, audience participation, promotion, and sustainable content planning.
Creating Characters Readers Care About
Readers don’t necessarily have to like a character, but they need a reason to care what happens to them.
This craft-focused workshop explores the emotional architecture behind compelling characters, including wants and needs, wounds and beliefs, contradictions, agency, stakes, relationships, and character change. Writers learn how to move beyond character profiles and create fictional people readers become emotionally invested in.
Topics include: character motivation, emotional logic, flaws, internal and external stakes, relationships, agency, and character arcs.
Author Branding for Authors Who Hate Branding
Author branding doesn’t require becoming an influencer, manufacturing a personality, or choosing the perfect shade of blue.
Using Moni’s Voice + Values + Vibes framework, writers learn how to identify what is already distinctive about their storytelling, understand the readers they want to reach, and develop clearer positioning for their author brand.
Topics include: Voice + Values + Vibes, reader identity, reader promise, positioning, brand consistency, and visual expression.
Self-Publishing 101: What Every Author Needs to Know Before Uploading a Book
The upload button is not a publishing plan.
This beginner-friendly workshop gives aspiring independent authors a roadmap for what should happen between finishing a manuscript and publishing a professional book. Rather than walking through upload screens, Moni teaches the decisions authors need to understand before they ever reach them.
Topics include: manuscript readiness, editing, cover design, ISBNs, copyright, metadata, pricing, distribution, formatting, proofing, and pre-upload preparation.

Moni is also available for customized workshops, panel discussions, interviews, and conversations on independent publishing, storytelling, author careers, creative entrepreneurship, and related topics.

What Attendees Are Saying
I learned so much from all of Moni’s workshops! But her Brand and Newsletter workshops were career changing for me. She asked important questions that I had never even considered and it really helped me narrow my writing focus. She’s super approachable and friendly. And putting a newsletter together was so much more fun than I thought it would be! Even if nobody subscribes, I love having it just for me! I would attend any workshop of hers any time!

The Muse Writers Conference
I attended Moni Boyce’s Creating Characters Readers Care About workshop [at the Muse Writers Conference] expecting to hear the same familiar advice, but I was pleasantly surprised by her fresh perspective. Novice writers will glean a great deal from this workshop, but as an experienced writer who has attended several workshops covering similar material, I was especially impressed by how original and insightful Moni’s approach was.
She has a gift for articulating ideas in a way that gets to the heart of the craft. Everyone knows that the stakes should be high and that every element on the page should serve the story, but Moni explained the why behind these principles. She showed how making simple changes or exploring seemingly minor details can give your writing an even greater emotional impact.
Moni is also a natural teacher. As a writer, I love when words flow smoothly and serve a clear purpose, and her explanations made me think, “This lady really knows her stuff!” I hope to have the opportunity to take another workshop with her in the future.
